Like many writers I started young. I didn’t take it seriously at first but I realized that the itch to tell stories wasn’t going to go away. A big chunk of my life got dedicated to learning and earning until I finally managed to crunch out a full manuscript. I sent it off to Harlequin and waited for the reply.
When it came it was a rejection. What I didn’t fully appreciate at the time was that the rejection was really an encouragement. One thing I learned from the experience is that I am not a romance writer. My stories definitely have a romantic element, but pure romance isn’t my thing.
I muddled along for several years with two books that I finally published. Closing the Circle came out last year and Hubris, the first of the Charity Deacon investigations this year. Since 2008 – the year I found National Novel Writing Month – I have been working on my craft. I now write primarily in the three series: The Quinn Larson Quests, The Charity Deacon Investigations and The Madeline Journeys.
I know I’ll do some more stand alone stories like Closing the Circle and Breaking the Bonds. They are fun to write and hey, you never know where another series will come from.
